Old Covenant – New Covenant

Old Covenant – New Covenant

I believe since Christ mediated the New Covenant followers of Christ are no longer made righteous by the keeping of the Old Testament Law.

Rather Christ who kept the Law conferred his righteousness upon us by faith.

The law which we are now to live by is the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus which has made us free from the law of sin and death.

‘In the Gospel Christ distilled the OT Law down to just two.

1. Love God
2. Love your neighbor as you love yourself.

In order to truly accomplish this we must walk in the spirit.

Part of the New Creation is the God-given ability to walk by the spirit which produce the fruit of the spirit as opposed to walking in the flesh which produce the works of the flesh.

Paul said in Galatians 3:3-7:

Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

Paul told the Galatians if they tried to keep the law in order to perfect the flesh then Christ would have no effect unto them because they were fallen from grace.

This is a big deal!

Today most of what is called Christianity is operating with one foot in the OT and the other in the NT.

What is the fruit?

If there is a problem with the fruit then there is a problem with the root.

Galatians 5:3-4

Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Galatians 3:10-14

For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Thankfully Christ has set us free from the curse of the Law so we can truly live in the abundance of newness of life only he has to offer.
Because of what Christ has accomplished we are truly free!

As NT believers we are free to worship God in spirit and in truth.

Galatians 5:2

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

The yoke of bondage refers to the keeping of the law.

The choice is ours under which law we desire to live.

The law of sin and death or the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus.

Thank you Lord for your love, grace, mercy and peac
