The First Ascension of Jesus Christ into Heaven

The First Ascension of Jesus Christ into Heaven

When we dig deep and study the scriptures closely, we learn that the Bible describes two ascensions of the Lord Jesus into heaven. The second and final ascension was from the Mount of Olives with the Apostles in attendance. The first was on the morning of His resurrection from the dead in the presence of Mary Magdalene.

On the very morning when the Father raised Christ from the dead, this Jesus in His role of High Priest after the order of Melchizedek, ascended into the third heaven, and entered into the Holiest of Holies (in heaven) to sprinkle His own sinless blood on the Mercy seat cleansing those who believe in His name from all sin

The scriptural evidence of this incredible truth is found in John 20:11-17:
John 20:11-17
11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Take a moment and imagine what it must have been like the first time Jesus ascended into heaven on the morning of His resurrection. The attention of all the heavenly hosts were riveted on Him as He appeared as High Priest after the order of Melchizedek to fulfill His priestly duty of the atonement. What an awesome moment this was as the hosts of heaven watched as Christ approached the Holy of Holies in Heaven.

Orchestrated by the Holy Spirit at the exact moment the earthly High Priest performed his duty on the Day of Atonement of the sprinkling of the blood of the sacrificial lamb on the Mercy Seat in the Temple at Jerusalem, Jesus Christ in His role of High Priest after the order of Melchizedek, was carrying His own precious blood into the Temple of heaven. The blood of the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world was sprinkled by Christ on the Mercy Seat in heaven. At this most significant moment our redemption was complete!

All the eyes of heaven were watching in reverent silence as the Glorified Son of the Living God entered into the Holy place to cleanse the sins of His followers with His own precious blood. The plan of salvation was completed as His pure, precious blood was sprinkled on the Mercy seat. Redemption was complete and sealed for eternity! The reverent silence was broken erupting into joy and rejoicing that filled all heaven as the redemptive work of Christ was fulfilled!

Hebrews 9:24-28
24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

After ascending into heaven and the sprinkling of His own blood on the Mercy Seat was completed, Christ returned to Jerusalem and spent the next forty days with his disciples in His resurrected body, teaching them the things concerning the Kingdom of God.

Acts 1:1-3
1 In the former account [which I prepared], O Theophilus, I made [a continuous report] dealing with all the things which Jesus began to do and to teach [Luke 1:1-4.]
2 Until the day when He ascended, after He through the Holy Spirit had instructed and commanded the apostles (special messengers) whom He had chosen.
3 To them also He showed Himself alive after His passion (His suffering in the garden and on the cross) by [a series of] many convincing demonstrations [unquestionable evidences and infallible proofs], appearing to them during forty days and talking [to them] about the things of the kingdom of God. (AMP)

During the forty days after His resurrection Christ showed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

The Kingdom of God and Deception

Many today have been and remain deceived when it comes to realizing the great powerful impact the preaching of the kingdom of God has in this world. I also was in this category due to erroneous or inadequate teachings concerning the Kingdom of God.

Thinking I knew about the things concerning the kingdom of God but really had very little knowledge or understanding of it.

Where was this more than abundant life Jesus proclaimed he came to give?

I still had financial worries, family problems, health and weight challenges like everybody around me. My list could go on and on.

When I stopped and honestly evaluated my life it was not more than abundant at all.
In fact it didn’t look much more prosperous than some of my neighbors who did not believe in God. Honestly my life was not even abundant.

But how could this be so if Christ had promised better life? I began to pray and reach out to the Lord for the answers to my dilemma.

I thought I knew about the things concerning the kingdom of God but really had very little knowledge or understanding of it. After some time my eyes and ears began to open and I was able to begin to take in this awesome knowledge and power of God’s Kingdom in the world today.

I believe the Lord showed me in Matthew 11:28-30 that this was his invitation to all who would come to live in the kingdom of God.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

I began to focus my attention upon the Gospel teachings of Christ my Lord concerning “Kingdom Living.” Then slowly over some years the message of the kingdom became much clearer and I began to change my outlook on life. I started to develop a “Kingdom Attitude” towards life.

I stopped worrying about finances. I began eating healthier and slowly losing weight. My attitude towards people became more loving and kind. Most of all I began to experience a gentle peace within my soul as I began to learn more about some the kingdom benefits that become ours as we simply seek First the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.

The Lord instructed that we simply seek. He did not say we needed to totally know all about the Kingdom of God and His righteousness before we may experience its blessings.

He simply told us to seek first! In other words if we desire the blessings we must make this the number one priority of your life.

And so my Kingdom Journey began when I finally realized and admitted that I did not know much about God’s glorious kingdom. This is when the scriptures began to open up to me and I began to learn from the Lord more about His main message to the world.

Many times in the gospels the Lord opened up his preaching with “The Kingdom of God is at hand” or “The Kingdom of God is within you”

Everything the Lord Jesus did and said was all about his Father”s Kingdom on earth. During the life of his ministry he was our example of how man should live towards God! Then at the same time he demonstrated what God would do in every situation.
Jesus of Nazareth was and is the only one qualified to show us the Father by his words and actions. This is why he is called the mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. In today’s vernacular Christ is the interface between God and man. Christ is the only connection to the Father.

Christ is our perfect example of Kingdom Living.”

Christ showed by example how to live in this Kingdom of God as he went about preaching the kingdom and doing many miracles. Devils were cast out and blind men received sight as He lived out the words he was speaking.

He taught his disciples and gave them power over Devils sending them out to preach the gospel or the good news. What happened when his disciples went and did as Christ showed them? The same works Christ performed they were able to do also!

What was this power over Devils Christ gave to his disciples?

In the gospel accounts it was the power of the preached Good News that caused Satan to fall from heaven. The power of the preached word of the kingdom was being preached from the lips of ordinary men and great signs, miracles, and wonders followed. If this was true 2000 years ago it must be true today also.

Then throughout the Book of Acts the followers of Christ were able to heal the sick and cast out Devils when they preached the good news of the kingdom of God.

In the famous Lords Prayer Christ teaches us to focus on the Kingdom of God.

“Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”

The Lord’s prayer is a Kingdom Prayer and is actually an outline on how we should pray and live in the kingdom during our life towards God and towards others.

We may begin to see how the preaching of the good news is the key to unlocking the power of God’s so the disciples could continue the tasks of preaching the good news of the Kingdom in this word today! Jesus gave the keys to the Kingdom to his disciples.

As we study through the gospels and the book of acts we learn the preaching of the good news of the Kingdom of God sets up the atmosphere of the kingdom for God’s Will to be done here and in earth today!

However there is an enemy of God that knows this good news will defeat his purposes. Therefore Satan employs a tool to distract the people of God from truly accomplishing the preaching of the true gospel around the world.

Deception is a most powerful tool! It blinds oneself to the truth without the individual ever recognizing they are deceived and one of the greatest deceptions is to distract people away from the truth of God’s Word.

Have we been distracted away from the true knowledge of the good news of the Kingdom of God?

Consider what I say an the Lord give the understanding so we may all know and live the truth about the most important subject in the scriptures “The Kingdom of God.”

The deceived are not able to save themselves from this dilemma but need an outside source to awaken them to the fact that they have been deceived. Then they are free to take the steps needed to recover themselves out of this snare of the devil. Jesus said:

John 10:36 KJV
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

A minister of Christ is instructed to not strive

but be gentle

apt to teach

Instructing those who are in opposition to the truth

And by doing this

God peradventure or by any means

By way of an agent

whether they be human

OR celestial

May awaken the individual in order to be able to deliver themselves from the snare of the devil.

Just as an alarm clock’s function is to awaken one from slumber, it does not have the responsibility or possess the power to get one out of bed.

The simple fact is that once the alarm is sounded the responsibility is on the deceived to make the right decision to get out of bed.

I have a decision to make when the alarm rings. I can either awake and get out of bed or remain in bed roll over and fall asleep again.

The Lord would like for His church which is His body to be awake to the things concerning the Kingdom of God. Hence I started this Blog some years ago to document what I am learning to share with others. Let me add that by no means am I the only one sharing this good news of living in the kingdom of God.

There are many sharing this good news however we need more to be awakened.

The Lord commanded his disciples to “Go into all the world and preach the good news of the kingdom of God.” We have resources available to us today that connects to the entire world so that we may share the Good News!

If anyone reading this Blog has any insights into Kingdom Living please do share what you have learned with the rest of us.

We are all part of the glorious unfathomable body of Christ.

If we are Christ’s we are Kingdom Citizens now!
